Gatiep is a peaceful man. Every day he catches some fish for himself and then sits down to contemplate the ocean for the rest of the day. One day, a man in a big car asks him if he has anything to sell him. The man explains to Gatiep that if he fished more, he’d be able to sell the fish and earn some money, and with this money he’d then be able to buy new fishing gear, and then a factory and so on. When Gatiep grows old, after having worked day and night for his whole life, he’s able to stop fishing…in a hospital bed.
