In a West African village, a young girl is about to undergo infibulation. She is rescued by her older sister Magda, who escaped from the village many years before in order to avoid the ritual. The women of the village accuse Magda of having dishonoured herself and her family, but – Magda replies – the real disgrace lies in the physical and psychological consequences of the mutilation. The community will disown Magda and her sister, nobody will marry them and they will be alone; to this Magda replies that they are a family and that they will always be together. One woman undergoes infibulation every eight seconds, mostly in Africa.
